In a moving act of compassion, People For Animals (PFA) Sikkim rescued a badly injured deer near Shangrila Industries by the Teesta River in Mamring, Rangpo, in what is suspected to be a case of animal cruelty.
Responding to an urgent call, the PFA Sikkim team rushed to the site where the deer lay wounded and terrified. The rescue took place near the river belt—a zone increasingly threatened by poaching, pollution, and human encroachment. The deer bore visible injuries, and rescuers suspect it may have been targeted for bushmeat, highlighting the growing conflict between wildlife and human activity in the region.
PFA Sikkim, which usually handles domestic animal rescues, described the event as a rare but crucial moment that underscores the broader need for wildlife protection. Volunteers carefully lifted the deer and transported it to safety, where it is currently receiving medical treatment.

In a heartfelt message, PFA Sikkim said: "It’s heartbreaking how selfish gain can cost a life so pure and harmless. When will we learn that the forest is their home, not our hunting ground? Every living being deserves to live in peace, not in fear."
This incident has sparked renewed calls for public awareness, responsible development, and stronger wildlife protection efforts in Sikkim. The story of this one deer serves as a stark reminder of our role as stewards of nature — and how even a single act of kindness can make a difference.
