Guwahati, December 1, 2019:

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday officially launched the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games, to be held in Guwahati city from January 10 to 22.

At a star-studded ceremony in the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Rijiju unveiled the mascot, the logo, the jersey, and theme song of the games.

According to Rijiju, around 11,000 athletes and technical officials will participate in the games, which will also see the introduction of the new games of cycling and lawn bowls have been added at the games.

Many senior level politicians, such as CM Sarbananda Sonowal, and Minister Chandramohan Patowary, as well as star athletes -- including the likes of Hima Das, Lovelina Borgohain -- were also a part of the ceremony. The ceremony also saw song and dance routines, and light-hearted moments.

It may be mentioned here that Khelo India Youth Games, formerly Khelo India School Games, meaning Play India Youth Games, held annually in January or February, are the national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India held for two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students.

Khelo India Games 2020 will be giving a chance to youth of the state develop their potential, and emerge as world class athletes. It is expected to be a great opportunity for the young athletes of the region gain more exposure.
