Indian Army organized the first edition of ''Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament'' on June 19 at Hujiguri Railway indoor stadium in Tinsukia.
The tournament was organized to promote the culture of sports and fitness amongst the youth of Assam.
The opening ceremony took place at Tinsukia which was witnessed by an exuberant crowd and elicited an overwhelming response from the youth of the state, including participants and spectators.
Besides this, cultural programs including Bihu dance were also organized on the occasion.
Indian army is conducting Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament from 19 Jun to 22 Jun 2023 in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh with an aim to provide a platform for young and budding players of the state to showcase their talents.
The spectacular event was graced by MLA Doomdooma Rupesh Gowala and Brigadier kripal Singh Gill, DRM Tinsukia Utam Prakash, and other officers.
Speaking on the occasion, DoomDooma MLA, Rupesh Gowal said that the Indian Army in association with Assam Badminton Association organized the tournament named 'Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament'.
'' We appreciated that the Indian Army is organizing the tournament. We have been seeing that on several occasions, the Indian Army carried out works pertaining to social matters. In this tournament, more than 200 players are participating. I think that players have got a nice platform to display their skills. We hope that in the future, Indian Army will keep organizing such events or tournaments,'' said Gowala added.
As the tournament was declared open the badminton matches for the slated categories under 19 and U 17 for both girls and boys were played.
