BJP accuses CPI-M of instigating post-poll violence in Tripura

BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said that this came to the fore after a delegation of the state BJP visited the parts of the state to review the flaring up of violence following the polls.

“The supporters of BJP faced attacks in different parts of the state since Saturday night. We had formed a team including BJP state President Dr. Manik Saha, MP Pratima Bhoumik, Law minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tribal Welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia to visit the violence-affected places across the state. The victims said that CPIM had hands behind the clash and we have noticed how CPIM in the name of TIPRA instigated the violence”, Nabendu said.

Nabendu alleged that many houses were ransacked, burnt, and cattle looted.

“In some places, people are receiving threats over the phone. Few workers of our party forced to take shelter in government offices. We filed a written complaint with the police. CPIM know that they can no longer sustain and therefore they have chosen the path of violence. We are happy that our people did not retaliate and remained silent”, he said, adding that supporters and workers of IPFT the ruling ally of BJP also came under attack.

Following this post-poll violence, the state government clamped section 144 in many parts of the state as a counter-measure. Reports of violence came on the counting day itself, right after TIPRA assured their victory in the polls.
