AGARTALA: The Tripura High Court has instructed Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb government to submit a report on the actions taken by it to put a check on the attacks on minorities and vandalization of mosque.
A suo-moto public interest was taken up by a division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice Subhashish Talapatra. The bench sought a report to be submitted by the November 10 on the alleged violence in North Tripura district.
The bench has also sought details on the actions taken by the regarding fake social media posts.
The court has futher directed the Chief Minister to take action for giving compensation to the victims.
Reportedly, a mosque was vandalised and two shops were set on fire at Chamtilla area in Panisagar in North Tripura district on October 26. As per reports, the violence took place owing to ishwa Hindu Parishad rally which was taken out to protest against the recent violence against Hindus in neighbouring Bangladesh..
The High court was informed by Tripura Advocate General Siddhartha Shankar Dey that the adequate security arrangements for the protection and security of religious places belonging to minorities.
He further informed that cases have been registered against the fake social media posts.
Peace meetings were organized by the government at Dharmanagar and Panisagar in North Tripura district, Amtali of West Tripura, Kulubari and Laxman Dhepa of Sepahijala district to maintain peace and stop the spread of fake news, informed Dey.
There were rumour mongering and misinformation campaigns in the social media replete with photos and videos of incidents outside the state and foreign countries to disturb communal harmony, he added.
Owing to rumor mongering and spread of misinformation on social media platforms , the Hgh Court has suggested the state government to organize more peace meetings and further urged political parties to particiapte in the peacemaking process.
Reacting to the attacks, TIPRA Chief Pradyot Manikya made some strong remarks while urging people to maintain communal harmony in the state.
In a live video, the Royal scion said, “It is not our culture in Tripura to fight among ourselves being Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists etc”, he said urging everyone to maintain peace and harmony.
