Tripura Violence; BJP-CPI(M) conflict left over 10 people injured

Agartala: Violence occurred in several districts of Tripura when claimed BJP workers attacked three media houses and three CPI(M) offices on September 8.

More than ten people were wounded, and six vehicles were set on fire.

Pratibadi Kalam daily and its TV channel PB24, Daily Desher Katha offices in Agartala and Duranta TV channel offices in Udaipur, Gomati district were the three media houses attacked.

In the Melarmath area of West Tripura district, the CPI(M) state head office and sub-divisional office, as well as a local party office in Bishalgarh were all attacked.

According to the sources, the incident is the outcome of a conflict between BJP and CPI(M) workers on Monday in Tripura's Sepahijala district's Dhanpur and Bashpukur villages, during the visit of Manik Sarkar, the former chief minister and opposition leader.

Violence was reported on Wednesday in Udaipur, Gomati district, Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district and West Tripura district's Hapania and Melarmath regions.

To put the situation under control in Udaipur, police used lathicharge and teargas shells.

According to the police, Agartala saw the burning of six vehicles, including three cars and a few motorcycles. The offices of political parties in Bishalgarh and Hapania were demolished.

A party office in the Udaipur district was attacked. Mafiz Miah, a young man was hurt there. In connection with the incident, a case was filed and two people were arrested, police added.

The attacks on media houses such as Pratibadi Kalam, PB 24 and Daily Desher Katha occurred during a rally held by the ruling BJP in Agartala on Wednesday to protest an alleged attack on party workers during clashes reported from Dhanpur and Bashpukur villages in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday.

According to the sources, a mob gathered outside these media companies and set fire to two-wheelers parked outside Pratibadi Kalam and PB 24 offices, as well as the editor's vehicle.
