The former Tripura Chief Minister and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member Manik Sarkar on June 18th, 2020, referring to the Indo-China standoff in Ladakh suggested that the friendly bonding of neighbors should be kept intact in order to protect the sovereignty of a nation.

“We are mourned after getting the information that 20 Indian soldiers left for the heavenly adobe owing to the stand-off erupted at Indo-China borders. I feel the central government will surely stand beside the families of the martyrs. But, both the governments should sit together and resolve the issues between them through a proper dialogue” the former Tripura CM told a condolence meeting of three veteran CITU leaders.

The veteran communist leaders also hoped that the neighboring countries should keep their camaraderie intact for a cooperative bilateral atmosphere. “To protect the sovereignty of every individual as well as the country as a whole it is necessary to resolve issues between the neighboring countries. Apart from that the matter of peace and tranquility also needed for a country to prosper”, added Sarkar.

Sarkar also slammed the central government for its claim to be anti-working class role. “The government that is ruling the country today has a very unique weapon. It (The government) is relentlessly targeting the working class in order to appease the interest of its corporate friends”, Sarkar told the gathering.

Taking a dig at the new Citizenship matrix, Sarkar said, “The government is trying to push the minority community in the darkness of communal persecution through this act. The way people have come out against it shows as to how much people are angered at them”.

The former Tripura CM also asked the state leadership to set a new build-up for the future and urged the youth to lead the front. “The duty of local leaders is to let new people in the organization. There will be certain problems, but the duty of the leaders is to nurture them so that they can drive the organization in future. In the beginning, loopholes will be there but it is the responsibility of the leaders to train them and make them confident to lead a movement against the imminent problems”, Sarkar concluded.
