Tripura | IPFT to contest elections alone, fields Sukla Charan Noatia, NC Debbarma

Agartala, March 17, 2019:

After much ado and many talks and deliberations, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) party has decided to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha 2019 elections by itself and not fight alongside allies BJP. The party has taken this decision after their demand to field a candidate for the Tripura East (ST) seat was not fulfilled by the BJP. The IPFT has named Sukla Charan Noatia and Narendra Chandra Debbarma as its candidates from the West Tripura and East Tripura Constituencies, respectively.

Speaking exclusively to InsideNE, IPFT’s West Tripura nominee and Youth Leader Sukla Charan Noatia said: “We met the BJP 2-3 times. We helped the BJP a lot during the Assembly elections and helped their members become MLAs, but they have ignored us after forming the Government and did not want to share seats during the Lok Sabha elections. Thus, we have declared candidates from both the Constituencies. It is confirmed that our party member will be MP in the ST (Tripura East) seat.”

It is to be mentioned that the election in Tripura is expected to be a four-way contest between the Congress, BJP, CPI (P) and the IPFT. The BJP is yet to announce the names of its candidates.

CPI (M) candidate for West Tripura is Sankar Prasad Datta while CPI (M) candidate for EastTripura is Jitendra Choudhury, while the Congress will field Pradyot Deb Barman in West Tripura and Gopal Chandra Roy will contest the election from the East Tripura Constituency.
