Tripura: Woman gives birth to baby girl onboard Shramik Special Train

Amid the uncertainties, a woman migrant worker gave birth to a baby girl successfully onboard a Shramik Special train headed to Khagaria in Bihar from Jirania in Tripura.

The woman delivered the baby with the help of the doctors and other passengers on the train at Katihar on May 18.

Sharing the good news on the microblogging site –Twitter, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) wrote: “A lady who was traveling in the 05623 Shramik Special Train from Jirania (Tripura) to Khagaria (Bihar) delivered a baby girl at Katihar today with the help of doctors. Both mother and child are healthy & fit to travel further. Railways wish the newborn a happy and blissful life.”

The mother and baby girl were declared fit to travel by the health officials saying that they were doing fine. It may be mentioned that several such reports surfaced since the lockdown was enforced in the country to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

It may be mentioned that lockdown triggered the exodus of migrant workers across the country. People working in other cities traveled to home on foot after being removed by their employers. Giving a relief to the migrant workers, the Indian Railways resumed special train services from May 13. On the other hand, the Central government has also announced a massive economic package for the welfare of migrant workers.

Tripuris stranded abroad

Meanwhile, the Tripura Education Minister Ratanlal Nath said that as many as 162 people of the state have been stranded abroad and now, they want to return.

Of the 162, 83 are in Bangladesh, 25 are in Ukraine, 12 in Oman, nine in Russia, seven in America, six in Nepal, five in Kirgizstan, three in Italy, two persons each in New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia, and one person each in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arab, Kuwait, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Portugal, Nath told the media on May 18.

“Considering their requests, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is arranging flights to bring them back and the process is expected to begin very soon,” the minister said adding that the passengers will have to bear the travel expenses at their own.
