Maharaja built Agartala Airport in 1942, yet Communists ignored his legacy: Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha paid rich tributes to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur on his 117th birth anniversary, recalling his contributions to the state’s development and legacy.

Speaking at the occasion, CM Saha said, “The last Maharaja of Tripura’s Manikya Empire was Bir Bikram. The way he developed Tripura in every way, the Maharaja himself established the Agartala airport in 1942.

Yet, no one took his name. Before 2018, the communists ruled here but did not give him any respect. After our government was formed in 2018, we gave him respect. We named the Agartala airport after him as Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.”

Saha underlined that Maharaja Bir Bikram’s vision and reforms laid the foundation for modern Tripura, from infrastructure to education. He reiterated his government’s commitment to preserving and honouring the legacy of the royal leader, who is widely regarded as the “Architect of Modern Tripura.”
