Tripura govt employee caught drinking on duty; three escape

A Tripura government employee was caught red-handedly consuming alcohol inside the Udaipur Sub-divisional Magistrate’s office in Gomati district on Friday.

Three others, who were also involved, managed to escape from the scene.

The accused, identified as Laxman Sarkar, initially denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to it.

"I work in the election department and am currently posted at the Sub-divisional Magistrate’s office. I don’t know what happened. There were four of us, and the others were senior to me," he said.

Commenting on the incident, Udaipur Sub-divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar stated, "I was on field duty when I received a call about the matter. I immediately instructed the Additional Sub-divisional Magistrate to handle it. A detailed report has been submitted, and as per government rules, strict action will be taken. The officials involved were on deputation, and we will inform their respective departments."
