Two Manipur Police Sub-inspectors have been suspended for their alleged dereliction of duties leading to the incidents of violence on NH-37 on the Imphal-Jiribam road during a 24-hour bandh called jointly by Zeliangrong organisations.
While the government was mulling disciplinary action against the two policemen, the duo has also been barred from leaving their headquarters without permission.
Two trucks and a passenger vehicle were torched on Thursday by bandh supporters, who also damaged two other passenger vehicles.
The bandh call was given by Zeliangrong— a conglomerate of three Naga tribes Zemei, Rongmei and Liangmei — demanding arrest of NSCN-IM functionaries for their alleged threats to Zeliangrong leaders. The bandh was observed from midnight of August 15 to 16.
