4 Assam Jawans Killed in Himachal 'Dhaba' Collapse

Shimla, July 15, 2019:

The bodies of thirteen Jawans which were trapped within the debris of a collapsed two-storey 'dhaba' in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district were pulled out on Monday, officials said, taking the death toll to 14.

The four-storey building housing a small eatery and a guest house collapsed following heavy rains on Sunday afternoon when 38 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) of Assam Rifles, all from the nearby Dagshai cantonment, were eating lunch there. Nearly 15 others, including the eatery’s staff, were also present.

According to reports, the JCOs had gone for picnic. While coming back, they stopped at this 'Dhaba' ( a double storey concrete structure) for food. Due to rain, the structure collapsed. All the JCOs in the groundfloor were trapped, although the JCOs who were sitting in the first floor managed to escape with injuries.

The deceased jawans have been identified as Rajkishore, Balwinder, Pradip, Yogesh, Vinod, Kumar Chorei, Bisharsing, Lalson, Henkhomang, Rajen, Ajit, Surjit Sharma, and Nobin.

As per reports, four of the deceased jawans hailed from Assam. Further details are awaited.
