Amid the ongoing row over the Cattle Protection Bill of the Assam government, the smuggling of cattle remains rampant in the Indo-Bangladesh border areas of Assam and West Bengal.
Under the aegis of 62 Battalion of Border Security Force, a specific information based operation was conducted and eight Indian cattle smugglers were nabbed while twenty five cattle from bordering area under Tufanganj police station in Coochbehar, West Bengal.
At about 2.30, the suspected smugglers along with cattle were seen approaching the IBBF. The operation party, who were hiding, sprung into action and intercepted the cattle smugglers.
The swift action of the troops managed to apprehend the criminals who were trying to smuggle the cattle heads from India to Bangladesh.
The cattle smugglers and rescued cattle heads have been handed over to Tufanganj police station, Coochbehar, West Bengal for further legal action.
