Sasadhar Kakaty, a former General Secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) passed away on Wednesday at the Barpeta Medical College and Hospital in Assam's Barpeta district of Assam. He was 63.

According to media reports, the former student leader had been ailing from diabetes for a long time and had been admitted for treatment.

Kakaty, whose remains will be taken to the Barpeta Press Club later today where his near and dear ones will pay final tributes to the departed soul, had been elevated to the rank of AASU GS way back in 1985, after the six years' long Assam Agitation against foreigners.
