Akil A Kureshi to be the Next Chief Justice of Tripura

Agartala, October 18, 2019:

Akil A Kureshi, the seniormost Judge of the Bombay High Court, will be the next Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, sources said.

The Supreme Court Collegium, in a meeting held on 15 October, 2019 on reconsideration, has modified its earlier recommendations dated August 28, 2019. The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that the present Chief Justice of High Court Tripura, Justice Sanjay Karol, be made the Chief Justice of Patna High Court by modification of its resolution on August 28.

Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that the Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura, Justice Sanjay Karol, be transferred to Jharkhand High Court as its Chief Justice.

It is to be noted that a post of Judge in the Tripura High Court has been lying vacant for two-and-a-half years (since March 2017) since the retirement of Justice Swapan Chandra Das.

The High Court of Tripura presently has three Judges, along with a Chief Justice. It is expected that Akil A Kureshi will take charge as the new Chief Justice in the upcoming days.
