Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal has been elected as the President of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) on Sunday.
Chief Minister Sonowal was also the former Union Sports Minister for a two-year tenure from 2014 to 2016.
Taking it Twitter, the Chief Minister posted some pictures with members of the AOA, and wrote, “Honoured to be elected as the president of Assam Olympic Association (AOA). I thank members of the AOA for putting their trust in me to lead Assam's apex sporting body and congratulate all newly elected office bearers.”
A general meeting was held by the Assam Olympic Association on Sunday at Novotel Hotel in Guwahati, during which the announcement was made. The meeting was attended by almost all the members of the AOA, including the newly-elected General Secretary, Lakhya Konwar.
Resolving to develop the sports infrastructure within the State, the Chief Minister wrote in another tweet, “Working together with the spirit of #TeamAssam, I am certain that we will make Assam the hub of sports in India. Led by PM Shri @narendramodi ji's mission of #KheloIndia and #FitIndiaMovement, let's strive to make sports a mass movement by encouraging talent at the grassroots.”
