Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia on Saturday turned down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over its move to amend the contentious Citizenship (Amendment), Bill.

Addressing the media, Debabrata Saikia said that the Bill is against the Constitution of India, as it assures to give citizenship to a particular group of ‘Hindu’ citizens who fled from other countries due to "religious persecution".

Saikia questioned, “Why is the government not providing citizenship to the Hindu Tamilians from Sri Lanka who have fled from the country due to religious persecution and are living in 109 refugee camps in Tamil Nadu?”
He said that this government is particularly targeting particular places and particular Hindus to settle here in this part of the country.
The leader of opposition also slammed the state BJP government over its alleged involvement in the syndicate activities going on in and around the state.
