Guwahati, July 18, 2019:

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday spoke about the prevailing flood situation in Assam. The BJP leader held a video conference from Janata Bhavan in Assam capital Dispur with the District Commissioners of 33 districts in Assam to take stock of the condition their respective districts.

Biswa Sarma held that video conference as he is not able to go to the flood affected areas in each and every district, however, he urged the DCs to ensure that all steps are taken to alleviate the problems faced by the flood-affected people of Assam.

During the Press Conference, Himanta asked the Golaghat DC to construct as many highlands as is necessary for the safety of the inhabitants of Kaziranga and stated that funds will be allocated for the same.

The BJP leader also requested the DCs to send records of the damages to property, livestock, agricultural lands, embankments, bridges, schools, etc, within 26 July so that remunerations can be made. "Do send me the names and not just the quantities of the damaged properties", he said, addressing the DCs.

The Finance Minister also informed that any school textbooks damaged by flood would be re-printed within a month. To look after the people who have been taken ill due to floods, Biswa Sarma assured a sum of Rupees one lakh for for the flood-affected Assembly Constituencies in Assam and added that 5 health camps would be set up in each of the constituencies, where the treatment will be overseen by the top Government doctors of the State.

A sum of Rupees three thousand eight hundred has also been announced for the people in relief camps. Moreover, a sum of Rupees fifty thousand has been announced for the animals.

The Assam administration has also resolved to repair the houses which have been completely destroyed due to floods, and Biswa Sarma sought correct data from the DCs to begin these activities at the earliest.
