Assam: One' Zeliangrong United Front' Cadre Nabbed in Kidnapping Case, Arms Seized

Guwahati, February 27, 2020:

CRPF on Thursday nabbed one Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) cadre in a kidnapping case from Cachar district of Assam.

Based on a secret information, CRPF personnel had conducted an operation along with the police in the Ramgaizang village under Jirighat, Cachar and apprehended the Zeliangrong United Front cadre named Pouthuilung Gonmei (45).

They also recovered (A) 9 MM Pistol-01 No. (Regd. No.VDB 3641 Model 915, Smith and Wesson Brand, Made in USA) (B) 9 MM Mag.- 01 No. (C) live Ammunition- 05 Rds of 9 MM Pistol from the Zeliangrong United Front cadre's possession and brought him to Jirighat PS for thorough interrogation.

During the interrogation, he revealed about the movement of a person with ransom money collected from one kidnapping at Tamenglong, Manipur. As per his statement, the person, Rikhi Paujuam received the ransom money at Kolkata and travelled to Silchar.

The Cachar Police team led by Addl. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Cachar, Silchar intercepted the person at Kumbhirgram Airport. He was carrying unaccounted money worth 3 Lakh rupees.

Further investigation is going on.
