Section 144 has been imposed in the entire district of Chirang in Assam ahead of Holi in order to maintain peace and harmony.
The district administration's decision imposing restriction in the area is also being seen as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward situation during Holi and Dol Jatra on Monday.
The district administration has imposed this prohibitory order on colors to celebrate a trouble-free Holi and Dol Jatra.
The order also warned residents of not violating this order as the violators may invite prosecution under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
However, in the order issued by the Additional District Magistrate, Chirang, Karmadev Brahma, it was stated that any person aggrieved by this order may approach the district authority for exemption or alteration etc.
The order in Chirang that has been made effective on Sunday will remain in force until further order, said reports.
