The North East Students’ Organization (NESO) on Monday strongly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) announcement to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the party's manifesto ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
In an official release, the student organization stated, “It may be reminded that the whole of Northeast was up in arms in the recent months against the move of the Government of India to pass this CAB in Rajya Sabha. In this regard, the NESO strongly condemns this move by the BJP as it clearly shows that it has no regards for the welfare of the microscopic indigenous communities of the Northeast but rather this move is to reduce us to a minority in our own land.”

NESO would like to send a clear a message that it will not allow anyone to put our future generation at risk and the movement is on and will continue for uplift, safeguard, protection from both internal and external aggression", read the communique.
The NESO comprises of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam students’ union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) representing eight major students’ movement of the seven North Eastern States.
