Bodo Students from Bangladesh Invited to Complete their College Degrees in Kokrajharbodo

Kokrajhar, August 24, 2019:

Five Bodo students from Bangladesh on Thursday landed in Kokrajhar district of Assam. As a gesture of solidarity among the Bodo community, the students had been invited to complete their college degrees in Kokrajhar, the headquarters of the BTAD.

The students were welcomed at the Science College here on August 23, 2019.

A cultural evening was organized at the community hall of the Science College in presence of MP Biswajit Daimary, members of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and other organizations.

The students were felicitated with the traditional Bodo Aronai.

The Bodo Samaj of Kokrajhar has conceptualised a free overseas education programme for the Bodos dwelling in the neighbouring country, Bangladesh. This move is aimed at enhancing Indo-Bangla ties.

On the occasion, Daimary said, “India shares a strong-friendly relationship with Bangladesh and it is going to boost the economy of both the countries.”

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary said that around 2 lakh Bodos, Assamese, Garos and people belonging to other ethnic communities of Assam, are living in Bangladesh and they are supervised by a Development Council in Bangladesh. There is a unity among the Bodos living in Bangladesh.

The five students from Bangladesh, who are being accompanied by two guardians expressed happiness on being part of the programme and conveyed that they are happy to be in Assam.
