New Delhi, February 17, 2020:

A new death warrant issued by a Delhi Court said on Monday that Nirbhaya rape convicts will be hanged on March 3.

The four death row convicts -- Vinay, Mukesh, Pawan, and Akshay -- will be executed at 6 AM in Tihar jail in Bihar, the Court ordered.

The court was hearing pleas seeking fresh death warrants for the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.

Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar Singh, one of the convicts, told the court that he does not want to be represented by advocate Vrinda Grover.

Vinay Sharma, another death row convict in the case, has begun a hunger strike within Tihar jail premises.

It may be mentioned here that the 2012 Delhi gang rape case involved a rape and fatal assault that occurred on 16 December 2012 in Munirka, a neighbourhood in South Delhi.

The Delhi High Court had earlier rejected the Union government’s plea to stay the execution of the four convicts. It had observed that all the four had to be hanged together for the “Delhi Crime” on December 16, 2012.

Vinay, Mukesh, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta are the four convicts in the gruesome rape and murder of Nirbhaya (name changed) on December 16, 2012. She died on December 29, 2012 at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

The brutality of the rape had shocked the nation and tagged Delhi as the rape capital of India. It had led to massive protests across the country demanding justice for Nirbhaya and the countless crimes carried out against women.
