The Assam Secretariat employees on Tuesday were seen wearing black badges and black clothes as a mark of protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on the last day of the year.
This move of the Assam Secretariat employees came amid the government’s notice to prosecute those voicing out against government policies.

"The employees have voiced that they have their democratic right to protest against any injustice. Thus, no government has the right to stop the protests", an employee told the media.
It is to be mentioned here that on Monday, the Director of Higher Education has issued an order to prosecute those teachers and other employees of the department who criticize the government.

Meanwhile, the state of Assam has been protesting against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act that gives citizenship to six communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. However, Muslims have been excluded from the citizenship criteria.
