#CycloneFani: North-East lashed by rains, many flights cancelled

Guwahati, May 4, 2019:

The severe cyclone 'Fani' has created a nuisance for travellers in the seven sister NorthEastern states as many flights travelling outside the states have been cancelled due to safety concerns.

Meanwhile, constant rains continue to lash the North-Eastern states which has led to the cancellation of flights, mostly those incoming from or departing to Kolkata.

The moderate rainfall and darkened skies have played spoilsport in the region as the cyclone is headed to Bangladesh after flattening the Odisha and making a stop in West Bengal.

Authorities have taken adequate measures to ensure that the cyclone 'Fani' does not do severe damage in the region and Assam police have provided helplines to rescue people who might be in dire straits because of the impact of the storm.

All the airports in NER are opened for normal operations. Details of flights cancelled at different stations are as under:

In Guwahati LGBI airport, a total of 59 flights have been cancelled, in Agartala's MBB airport, 8 flights have been cancelled. In Dimapur, 2 flights have been cancelled. In Lilabari airport in Lakhim, 2 flights have been cancelled. In Dibrugarh, four flights have been cancelled. Six flights have also been cancelled at Manipur capital Imphal's airport.

Cyclone 'Fani' has now been categorised as "very severe" after it relatively weakened on entering West Bengal from remaining on "extremely severe" cyclonic storm category.
