Darjeeling, September 5, 2019:

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has assured the Gorkhas that no genuine Indian citizens will be left out of the Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) roll.

He also demanded that NRC be implemented in Darjeeling Hills, Terai and Dooars.

The MP said, “Implementation of NRC in Assam is being conducted under the strict supervision of Supreme Court of India, hence those genuine Indians whose name have been left out of the NRC Roll in Assam will be given adequate time and opportunities to have their cases redressed.”

Speaking on the lines of NRC in Darjeeling, he added, “…the fact is majority of the people are supportive of NRC in our region.” He further said that when the NRC would be applied in Darjeeling the Gorkhas along with the Rajbangshis, Toto, Rabha, Meche, Adivasis and other ethnic tribes from the region would naturally be included as ‘Original Inhabitants’.

Attacking Trinamool Congress (TMC), Bista said, “TMC has denied our land rights. NRC will benefit our people, and it will forever end the tyranny imposed upon our people in the form of no-Land rights.”

He went on to say, “Once our names are registered in NRC the West Bengal Government cannot continue to deny the Gorkhas, Adivasis, Rajbanshis, Toto, Rabha, Meche people our Parja Patta (legal document) and its associated benefits.

The MP was addressing a Teacher’s Day event at Marwari Bhawan in Siliguri. He shared his vision for developing Darjeeling as an educational hub.
