Dhola Killings | ULFA leader Mrinal Hazarika arrested

Guwahati, November 2, 2018:

Following the killing of five people near the Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Tinsukia, the Panbazar Police have arrested United Liberation Front of Assam-Peace Talks (ULFA-PT) leader Mrinal Hazarika for allegedly being involved with the case by making provocative statements.

It may be mentioned that Mrinal Hazarika had recently said that they would resort to massacre to stop the Bengali organizations pressing for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

There had been wide scale outrage of the provocative comments of Hazarika.

He was summoned earlier in the day for questioning at the Panbazar Police Station and was arrested in the afternoon. The police is yet to make an official statement as on what ground the pro talks leader has been arrested but reports claim that the leader has been arrested for making communal statements.

He was presented in front of the court immediately after arrest and has been forwarded to 14 days judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the police have also detained ULFA leader Jiten Dutta and he is currently being brought to Guwahati. It is not yet known why the police detained Jiten Dutta but sources stated that the reasons for his detention is as same as Mrinal Hazarika. There are chances that Jiten Dutta might be arrested as well.
