Foreigner Issue "Quite Different" in Northeast, Says Tripura Royal Pradyot ManikyaROYAL

Agartala, January 22, 2020:

Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya, fresh off being hailed as a savior of the Bru refugees in Tripura, has now joined the fight against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and "welcomed" the Supreme Court's order in segregating Assam and Tripura.

Taking to Facebook, the former Tripura Congress President "welcomed" the SC order in segregating the two States from the rest of the country as issues are "quite different" in the part.

As per Pradyot's post, the apex Court also took note of cross border infiltration (as shown on video as evidence in Simna and Khowai incidents that he had posted earlier). The royal further informed that the Supreme Court also took note of Tripura's regional agreements like the TNV and ATTF accords as well as instrument of accession signed by Kanchan Prabha Devi.

"We are hopeful that a constitutional bench will be constituted and address our issue within a month. We are glad that our issues were not hijacked as has been on previous occasions. The government of India has one month to respond", Pradyot said, in reference to the Supreme Court's verdict wherein it had stated that it would hear the pleas challenging the CAA after 4 weeks.

Notably, the Tripura royal has been attempting to highlight the illegal immigration problem in the Northeast in recent times, and has been trying to bring attention to the issue in the national arena.

Recently, the royal scion uploaded a couple of videos on Facebook which revealed the unmitigated and unregulated nature of the illegal immigrant influx into Tripura.

Sharing a video of suspected migrants crossing the border that was reportedly shot on December 26 this year, Manikya laments that many people are speaking out against the ‘CAA’, but few realize how porous the Northeast Indian borders are.

It may be mentioned here that Manikya’s state of Tripura has been one of the worst hit by the migration of economic migrants. The local Boroks, in the decades since independence, have been reduced an absolute minority due to the hordes of immigrants who have been crossing the international border since time immemorial.

Now, the demand for a separate ‘Tipraland’, a land for the indigenous people, have been intensifying ever since the state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into to two UTs — Jammu and Ladakh.
