Guwahati, July 17, 2019:

The floods in Assam have affected over 44.96 lakh people, with 17 deaths being reported so far.

Some kind-hearted personnel of the Indian Navy from across the country have decided to take a stand to alleviate the suffering of the people. A video has surfaced on social media where a group of Indian Navy personnel send a strong message of support to the people of Assam affected by the devastating flood.

The video that has been posted by Vishal Gupta, an Indian Navy personnel, has grabbed a large number of views in Assam and other states as well.

The video has been captioned “Donate for Assam. Around 43 lakhs people have been affected. They need our help. People of Assam should not feel alone. Do share it. Assam is not alone. In the video, the Navy personnel are seen saying "I am with Assam" and holds a placard towards the end of the video which says 'Oxomor Xoite Ami Asu' (I am with Assam).

As per latest reports, at least 17 people have lost their lives and over 44.96 lakh people of 4,620 villages in 32 districts of Assam.

As per government authorities, NDRF and SDRF teams have been pressed into service and 226 relief camps are currently operational across the State with over 1 lakh inmates.

Meanwhile, the central government has approved a sum of Rs. 251.55 crore for relief and rehabilitation work in Assam.
