Guwahati, January 22, 2019:

The Khalsa CentreNortheast along with members of the Guwahati media fraternity distributed hot food (Guru ka Langar) on Monday 22 July in flood hit villages of Sonapur circle of Guwahati Metro in Assam.

The organization is trying to make it a point to reach different parts of the state and feed flood-affected people with piping hot food.

Ahead of the programme, a member of the Khalsa Centre said: "Every one is requested to join and give a helping hand. Physical service is much more important than monetary contribution. So, people should take out some of time and join us in this endeavor. It can be service to the suffering...."

While talking to Inside Northeast, P P Singh, one of the seniormost members of the Sikh organization said that the campaign is meant to reach out to people from different districts. "A few days back, we distributed food to the flood-affected people in Nalbari. We took piping hot food to the flood-affected people and clothes. The faces of the people beamed up with smiles. It was gratifying, to say the least. Some media people had accompanied other people. We wanted to have a joint campaign as we believe we have the resources."

Singh also made an appeal. "Our only problem is that we don't have a vehicle. I have also spoken to NGOs who don't have vehicles, so if that can be arranged, our team can reach anywhere within a short period of 5 hours. If the corporations like OIL, ONGC etc join hands with, we can organize similar programmes all over Assam", he added.

The joint venture was able to feed more than 1,000 flood victims in three different spots, in a first collaboration of its kind in Assam, as informed by PP Singh.

Many Khalsa Centre Northeast members took part in the program. Capt P P Singh, who was leading a team of 15 members of Khalsa Centre North East alongwith Vice President Narinder Singh, Cashier Jaswinder Singh, Gen Secy Rajinder Singh, Bhinder Kaur, Rani Kaur, Amritpal Singh, Bishal Singh, Gulu Singh, Sagar Singh etc thanked the media fraternity of Guwahati for this new trend of jointly organising relief.

Angshuman Dey, Bikash Singh, Manjeeta Das, and Abhishek Kaushik are some of the Guwahati-based journalists who were thrilled to be part of this first joint venture to reach out to needy people in the hour of their need.

“People contribute financially for such relief which is good but I feel Physical service is much more important than monetary contribution and that is why I am here to do seva for the needy people,” said Anubhuti Gohain Boruah daughter of a senior city based journalist while serving hot food to the people.
