Meghalaya on Alert Following Coronavirus Scare in Northeast

Shillong, February 3, 2020:

The state of Meghalaya has issued an 'alert', along with the other states in the Northeast Indian state, following the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in neighboring China that has claimed over 360 lives.

Talking to Inside Northeast, L Hek, the Health and Welfare Minister of Meghalaya, informed that the Government is fully prepared to tackle the deadly virus. "There is not a single outbreak in the State, but we have given alerts to all the airports...including the Shillong and Guwahati airports...if there is anybody coming from that part (China), the DHS should be alerted at once. All the equipments such as the Personal Protective Equipment, masks, etc.."

Meanwhile, Mizoram too has taken steps to ensure that the virus does not spread its roots in the State. The Government has, meanwhile, reached out to the student community in Mizoram, and has created a WhatsApp group to ensure that the students get speedy information.

Meanwhile, a 3rd case of coronavirus has been reported from Kerala in South India. Another student studying in Wuhan University has been detected positive in Kerala, and the latest case has been reported from Kerala’s Kasaragod district.

Health Minister, Kerala, KK Shailaja has confirmed the report. ““The patient is stable. The sample test result on the infection arrived today morning. Two other coronavirus positive patients are in Thrissur and Alappuzha Medical Colleges,” he wrote on Twitter.
