Meghalaya | NPP, UDP and Congress' strong showing in Khasi and Jaintia Hill Elections

Shillong, March 2, 2019:

The Congress, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the National People’s Party (NPP) have been successful in the district council polls in Khasi and Jaintia hills region of Meghalaya, respectively.

The NPP and the UDP have been successful in grabbing 11 seats in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and Congress has grabbed 10 of the 29 seats in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has congratulated the electorates for taking part in the election process. In a post on his official Facebook account, he said: “Thank you electorates of Khasi and Jaintia Hills for giving your verdict to our party candidates. We are committed to serving you! NPP believes in purpose-driven politics and we assure to always work with our people to protect their rights and accelerate growth and development.”

Around 131 candidates are in the fray for the 29 seats each in KHADC and JHADC.
