“No difference between Jinnah and BJP”: Ex-Assam CM Tarun GogoiGogoi

Guwahati, January 9, 2019:

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has come out all guns blazing and equated the ‘Hindu-first’ ideology of the BJP to the communal ideology of Pakistan-architect Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In a scathing attack on the ruling government, the CM stated that BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal, while beating the drums of secularism, advocate for a ‘Hindu nation’ just like Jinnah asked for a Muslim country, and thus, there is no difference in their respective philosophies.

He also slammed the ‘Jatiya Nayak’ Sarbananda Sonowal and said that the title should never have been conferred on him by the AASU and alleged that he has been a fake all along. He also stated the AASU have an important role to play in the struggles to come in order to overturn the Bill. The former CM also stated that this struggle is more pivotal than the student struggle against the pumping of Assam crude Oil to a refinery in Barauni, Bihar of his youth days.

Talking about the implementation of the divisive Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, he said that it is a dark day not only for Assam, but for the entire country. “This Bill will drive a wedge between the Hindu and Muslim communities and with this Bill they (the BJP) have adopted the philosophy of Jinnah. This Bill will render the struggle of the Assamese obsolete,” the Former CM lamented. Tarun Gogoi also warned that the Bill will make it impossible to implement the Assam Accord (1985).
