The Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm, ‘FANI’ (pronounced as ‘FONI’) which is centred at the Bay of Bengal has moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 17 kmph in last six hours and lay centred over Westcentral Bay of Bengal about 320 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha), 170 km east-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 610 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal).
“Fani” is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, around Puri during forenoon on Friday.
Landfall process is very likely to continue till the afternoon of Friday after which is very likely to continue to move north-northeastwards, weaken gradually and enter into West Bengal as a Severe Cyclonic Storm.
It is very likely to move further north-northeastwards and emerge into Bangladesh on
Saturday evening as a Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 60-70 Kmph gusting to 80 Kmph.
The current Meteorological analysis and numerical model guidance suggests widespread rainfall activity across North Eastern states on Saturday and Sunday.
On May 4, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Kamrup (R) & Udalguri with isolated extremely heavy falls over South Salmara Mankachar and Baksa districts expected on Saturday which is on high alert. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Nalbari, Kamrup (M), Darrang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Cachar and Karimganj districts in Assam. Whereas, on May 5, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts. Heavy is likely at isolated places over Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Kamrup (R), Kamrup (M), South Salmara Mankachar, Nagaon, Hojai, Biswanath, West Karbi Anglong, Jorhat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, and Dibrugarh districts.
Similarly, high alerts have been issued in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri districts, Papumpare district, Tawang, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Siang, Lower Siang, East Siang, Upper Siang & Dibang Valley districts, Lower Dibang Valley districts, Siang, Upper Siang, Dibang Valley & East Siang districts, Tawang, Upper Subansiri, Lower Suvansiri, Papumpare, West Siang, Lower Siang, Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai and Changlang districts.
In Meghalaya, South Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills & East Khasi with isolated Extremely Heavy falls over South West Garo Hills and West Garo Hills districts, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills districts, South West Khasi Hills & East Khasi districts, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, West Khasi, Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts.
Manipur’s Jiribam, Chandel and Pherzawl districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall. And Nagaland’s Wokha District is also likely to experience its effect.
