Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday turned down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and slammed him as a ‘liar’ for claiming that no detention camps exist in India.
Addressing the media, Tarun Gogoi called PM Modi a ‘liar’ and said, “In 2008, under the direction of the High Court Justice Biplab Sarma, detention camps were set up, and now, Modi denies the presence of any detention camps.”

“Even during former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government in 1998, state governments were directed to build detention centres", Gogoi said.
Categorically criticizing the Narendra Modi led- BJP government that had promised to deport all the illegal migrants by May 16, the former CM said, “BJP has the record of sanctioning a huge sum of money to set up the largest detention camp in the country. Rather than deport illegal migrants, they have brought in the Act to give them citizenship.”
Accusing Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary for causing Assam to 'burn'. Gogoi further lampooned the Assam government and the CM for taking out 'peace rallies' in the wake of the massive and violent protests against the 'CAA'.
Gogoi also turned down heavily on CM Sarbananda Sonowal for accusing the Congress party to be the reason behind the deaths of immigrants. “If Congress did that, who is protecting the illegal migrants? Today, CM Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma are protecting them,” he lamented.
