Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) Limited has forwarded a Rs 774 lakh project to the North East Council (NEC) seeking funds to modernize the TTDC run tea factories in the state. Right now, there are two factories, Durgabari (Central Tea Processing Factory) and Brahmakunda (Brahmakunda Tea Processing Factory).

TTDC Chairman Santosh Saha sharing the details of the new project placed before the NEC said, “It is necessary to cope up with the trend. To be in the run up with other competitors in the market, suitable modernization drive to bring out the best possible end-product is basic. The modernization proposal forwarded to the NEC caters to several subjects that require speedy redressal for best tea making”.

According to him, the Rs 774 lakh project incorporates a range of issues including setting up new machines, hygienic aspects of the factories run by TTDC and other necessary infrastructure development.

According to the proposal letter, there two sole purposes—first, upgradation of existing resources, plantation, manufacturing units to cope with the trending quality making race. The second and the most important one, incorporation of latest technology in bringing out the tea.

As per the demand letter, the TTDC demanded micro-misting equipment for better oxidation and fermentation of the tea, tiled or PU flooring of 24000 square feet area for maintaining hygiene and better enzyme reaction and also to prevent microbial contamination.

The proposal also sought re-modification of civil structure and installation of several other mechanisms. “We have demanded to modify our civil structure, installation of packaging units for Tripureshwari tea, withering machine, CTC tea maker, electronic weighing bridge, VFB dryer with 400 Kgs discharge capacity and many more”, a official of the TTDC said.
