It seems like 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson is going from sex symbol to bat symbol. The British actor, it has been revealed, is in talks to play the caped crusader in the upcoming movie, 'The Batman', to be directed by 'Planet of the Apes' director Matt Reeves.
It had earlier been revealed that Ben Affleck, who is the most recent Batman, having donned the cape and cowl in the DC extended universe movies, including the highly-disappointing 'Justice League' movie, which almost sunk the Warner Bros franchise.
But thanks to recent hits like 'Aquaman' and 'Shazam', Marvel's biggest competitor in the superhero movie segment is finally back in form and 'The Batman', which releases on June 21, 2019.
The project has been in works ever since Warner Bros announced that Ben Affleck would be departing the franchise following the 'Justice League' debacle and Matt Reeves was placed at the helm instead. Reeves, who directed the last two installments of the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise, is working on a final script and will also produce the movie along with 'Planet of the Apes' producer Dylan Clark.
Filming is expected to begin by 2020.
If the talks come to fruition, Pattinson, 32, will become the youngest actor ever to play the 'dark knight'.
Robert Pattinson is mostly known and beloved for playing the protagonist Edward Cullen in the vampire love sage 'Twilight' and has an army of swooning fangirls who would be keen to follow his exploits in spandex. Pattinson, who hails from London, England, first came to public notice for playing the Harry Potter character Cedric Diggory in the fourth film in the franchise, 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.'
The star will next be seen in 'The Lighthouse' which is an upcoming American black-and-white dark fantasy horror film directed by Robert Eggers (of 'The Witch' fame) and written by him and Max Eggers.
