The Meghalaya police have arrested two person for allegedly being involved in the murder attempt of social activist Agnes Kharshiing in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills.
The two suspects have been identified as Elphon Dkhar and Meklison Siangshai. They were arrested in Kongong area in a pre-dawn raid.
The police said that they have registered a suo moto case as the victims are not in a position to file an FIR.
The police are currently interrogating the two suspects and further operations are on to nab the other suspects of the case.
It may be mentioned that Agnes Kharshiing, was attacked and severely injured on Thursday by suspected coal mafias in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.
According to sources, Agnes was attacked by a group of people along with her driver and accomplice Anita Narzary. She received severe injuries on her head while the rest escaped with minor injuries.
Kharshing was attacked when she went to East Jaintia Hills after receiving information about coal mining going on in the place and a few trucks being seized by the police. On reaching the spot, Kharshing started taking pictures of the location, when a group of people, suspected to be linked with coal mafias attacked her.
The attackers made good their escape before the police reached the spot.
All three injured have been admitted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong.
