Arrival of ‘miya’ people in Bordumsa sparks controversy in Arunachal

Even as debates over the ‘Miya’ issue continue across Assam, tensions flared in Bordumsa of Arunachal Pradesh after a group of suspected ‘Miya’ people reportedly arrived in a night super bus.

According to local organisations, the bus (registration number AS 01 FC 6427) carrying around 50 individuals was intercepted at the entry point and turned back. The group has since been kept near the Burhidihing Reserve Forest at Brahmajan.

Locals suspect that these individuals are displaced persons from eviction drives conducted in different parts of Assam. Some reports claim they had been brought to work in brick kilns in Arunachal, though none of them could identify their exact destination or employer.

The individuals are believed to hail from the Morigaon and Nagaon districts of Assam. Their sudden arrival has triggered unease among indigenous residents of Bordumsa and Pengeri areas, who have called on the administration to verify the group's documents immediately.

According to information, the movement of the group was allegedly led by one Babar from Morigaon and a person named Nagar from Arunachal Pradesh.

The incident has once again reignited concerns over settlement patterns and demographic changes in sensitive border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
