The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, in collaboration with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), kicked off a two-day orientation programme aimed at equipping newly elected MLAs with essential knowledge of legislative procedures and responsibilities.
The inaugural session was graced by Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. A galaxy of newly elected legislators and ministers participated in the programme, which is designed to strengthen their understanding of legislative functions, parliamentary decorum, and public policy engagement.

PRIDE Director P.K. Mallick introduced the institute’s role in capacity building for legislators. This was followed by insightful sessions led by Dr. Raghab Dash, Joint Secretary & Advisor, Rajya Sabha Secretariat, and Partha Goswami, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, who focused on the effectiveness and responsibilities of legislators.
The training emphasises topics such as legislative drafting, committee systems, parliamentary debates, and procedural nuances. PRIDE, formerly known as the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST), conducts such programs regularly for Indian and foreign legislators, offering attachments and study visits for a deeper understanding of India's democratic institutions.
The event concludes tomorrow and marks a crucial step in preparing lawmakers for their legislative journey in the Arunachal Assembly.
