In a landmark moment for Arunachal Pradesh’s medical education, Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), PVSM, UYSM, YSM, graced the Graduation Ceremony of the 2019 MBBS batch of Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) as Chief Guest.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge also attended the ceremony at TRIHMS Medical College, where 46 graduating doctors—including 29 from Arunachal Pradesh—received their certificates.
Congratulating the graduates, the Governor described the day as a significant milestone, both for the young doctors and for society. Applauding their perseverance and dedication, he reminded them that their white coats symbolize not just academic success but a lifelong commitment to serve humanity with empathy and integrity.
“Real education starts now,” the Governor said, encouraging the graduates to uphold the principle of ‘Service Before Self’. He urged them to serve in rural and underserved areas and adopt a lifelong learning mindset, balancing science with compassion.
Commending TRIHMS for its rapid rise as a healthcare and education hub, the Governor praised Director Dr. Moji Jini and the faculty for shaping a generation of committed medical professionals. He called upon the institute to integrate Artificial Intelligence, telemedicine, and digital health tools into medical education, while also nurturing soft skills, cultural sensitivity, and ethical values.
Health Minister Biyuram Wahge acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a patient-centric and technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem. He emphasized national initiatives such as ‘Heal in India’ and digital health IDs, which aim to boost medical accessibility in remote areas and reduce the financial burden on citizens.
Addressing the faculty, Governor Parnaik called for a dual approach—strengthening teaching infrastructure while developing compassionate, community-minded doctors. He stressed the need for mandatory rural rotations and stronger links between academic institutions and local healthcare systems.
Dean and Principal Dr. Shyamal Bhattacharya administered the Hippocratic Oath to the new graduates.
