Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Assam's Jorhat, on Friday (March 14) evening for a three-day visit to the northeastern states of Assam and Mizoram, where he was received by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials.
After his arrival at the annual conference of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), the Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that a road in Delhi will soon be named after Bodofa Upendranath Brahma.
Amit Shah proceeded to Dergaon in Golaghat district, where he will stay at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, which he is set to inaugurate on March 15. The academy's first phase has been completed at a cost of Rs 167.4 crore.
Following this, Shah travelled to Mizoram to attend a function marking the relocation of Assam Rifles establishments from central Aizawl to Zokhawsang, approximately 15 km away, an event scheduled for 3 PM after his arrival at Lengpui Airport at 1:45 pm.
This marks Amit Shah’s fourth visit to Mizoram as Union Home Minister, reflecting the Centre’s focus on northeast development and security initiatives.
On the concluding day of his tour, Amit Shah is scheduled to address the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU). Later, he will hold a key meeting with the chief ministers of the Northeastern states in Guwahati.

The meeting includes senior officials from the Centre, including Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka. Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) Director General Rajeev Kumar Sharma will deliver a final presentation on the progress of law implementation.
Amit Shah will provide guidance on improving law enforcement under the new system and address challenges faced by states. He is also set to release a book titled New Criminal Laws: Standard Operating Procedures and Rules, compiled by the Assam CID and published by the state government.
State officials are presenting updates on how the new laws are being integrated into police procedures, judicial processes, and forensic investigations. The meeting started with opening remarks from Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan.
With Manipur under President’s Rule, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla is representing the state. The Assam Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the meeting, stating that Shah is leading discussions on the rollout of the new legal framework.

Today, Amit Shah will chair a crucial meet with chief ministers of the Northeastern states. The meeting will be held to review the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), in the region, officials said. It was not immediately known who would represent Manipur in the meeting with the state being under the President's rule following the resignation of CM N Biren Singh last month. Amit Shah leaves for Guwahati after attending the land transfer ceremony between Assam Rifles and the Mizoram government in Aizawl, marking the relocation of Assam Rifles establishments from the heart of the city to Zokhawsang. Shah highlighted that the transfer of Assam Rifles is a very important step. "For about 35 years, due to the topography and dearth of space, there was a demand to shift the Assam Rifles camp. If we have to develop Aizawl city, space constraints were a major hurdle. Today, with an important decision by PM Modi, this long-pending demand has been fulfilled.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, reminisced about his past experiences in Assam, particularly during the tenure of former Chief Minister Hiteshwar Saikia.
During his speech, Shah revealed, "I have also been beaten up by the Congress government in Assam. Hiteshwar Saikia was the Chief Minister of Assam, and we used to raise slogans against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi." He further shared that he had spent seven days in jail in Assam and had witnessed people from across the country coming forward to support the state.
Speaking at the event, Amit Shah asserted that the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy will become the top academy in the country within the next five years.
Amit Shah emphasised the national recognition of Lachit Barphukan, who played a crucial role in defending Assam against the Mughals. "I was just seven years old when I was first taught about Lachit Barphukan. Following this, I read nothing about him until my graduation, as he remained restricted to Assam. However, his biography is now available in 23 languages, and he continues to inspire children across the country," Shah said.
Amit Shah commends Assam government for its efforts in modernising infrastructure, improving employment opportunities, and implementing welfare schemes that have played a crucial role in maintaining peace in the state. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to making Assam a hub of economic prosperity and cultural harmony.
Amit Shah announced that over 10,000 youths have surrendered their arms and joined the mainstream over the past decade. He credited the return of peace to Assam to the central and state governments’ sustained efforts in fostering stability and development.

Ahead of the inauguration ceremony today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma last night inspected the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy and the facilities which will be dedicated.
Amit Shah is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for housing projects of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy at Dergaon, today.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal will join Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the occasion.
