The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) observed its Central Satra Sanghati Divas today at Tulungia in Bongaigaon district, where AASU president Utpal Sarma hoisted the organisation’s flag and addressed the media on key state issues.
Speaking firmly on the issue of illegal immigration, Sarma said, “Not a single illegal foreigner will be allowed to stay in Assam. Every last one must be identified and deported.”
He emphasised that the India-Bangladesh border should be made as secure and stringent as the India-Pakistan border, citing repeated allegations that not only illegal immigrants but also fundamentalist and jihadist elements are entering through the porous border.

Sarma also reiterated AASU’s long-standing demand for a properly updated and error-free National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Commenting on the recent disturbances in parts of the state over beef-related issues, Sarma alleged that such events are the handiwork of divisive forces attempting to disturb Assam’s unity and harmony. He called upon the administration to ensure strict punishment for those involved in triggering communal unrest.
The Satra Sanghati Divas marks a significant annual occasion for AASU, highlighting its outreach to various satras (Vaishnavite monasteries) and reflecting its cultural and socio-political engagement across Assam.
