Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has alleged large-scale manipulation of electoral rolls in Assam, claiming that BJP leaders were caught illegally handling voter list-related work inside the Boko Co-District Commissioner’s office.
Gogoi shared a video on social media, which he said shows BJP functionaries inside a government office late at night, terming the incident a case of “vote theft”.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Gogoi alleged that the incident took place around 8:30 pm on January 22, 2026, when election-related activities were being carried out inside the office by BJP members without authorisation.
He claimed that names of genuine voters were being deleted from the electoral rolls, while attempts were also being made to block or unlawfully add names.
Describing the episode as a direct assault on democracy, Gogoi alleged that the manipulation was taking place within a government building, raising serious questions about the integrity of the ongoing electoral process in the state.
According to Gogoi, local journalists reached the Boko office after receiving a tip-off and found BJP leaders allegedly operating government computers meant for official election work.
The video shared by the Raijor Dal leader shows several individuals inside the office, who appeared visibly uncomfortable after being confronted by media persons.

In the footage, one of the individuals reportedly denied being an employee of the office and avoided giving clear responses to journalists’ queries. Another person is seen allegedly minimising the computer screen he was working on as soon as the media entered the room.
Sources cited by Gogoi identified the individuals in the video as Prahlad Biswas, General Secretary of South Kamrup Zila and Zila Parishad Council member from Chamariya Block; Mrinmoy Boro, Secretary of South Kamrup District; and Buddheswar Rava, General Secretary of the South Kamrup District ST Morcha.
Reacting strongly to the allegations, the Assam BJP dismissed Gogoi’s claims as baseless. The party said Akhil Gogoi was “mentally disturbed” and accused him of treating social media as an alternative to constitutional institutions. The BJP stated that if Gogoi had any genuine grievance, he should approach the Election Commission of India rather than going live on Facebook to “incite the public”.
The party further said that Gogoi had failed to provide any concrete proof to substantiate his allegations and maintained that no such incident had taken place. Assam BJP leaders reiterated that any issues related to electoral rolls fall solely under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission and said that Gogoi should formally submit his allegations to the constitutional authority instead of making them on social media.
Meanwhile, a press conference was also held at Rajiv Bhawan in Boko, where the Boko Congress leadership strongly condemned the alleged act of BJP leaders carrying out data entry and deletion work inside the sub-divisional office. The Congress described the incident as an attack on democracy.
