Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Assam government during an interaction with the media at a meeting organized by the Bokakhat Block and Nagar Block Congress Committee.
The event, titled "Organizational Meeting and Joining Programme," was held at the Natyamandir in Bokakhat, with Gogoi addressing a gathering of party workers and new members.
Gogoi accused the state government of deliberately avoiding panchayat elections, alleging that the BJP is fearful of facing public scrutiny.
"Today, people are moving away from the BJP, and the BJP-led state government is scared to conduct panchayat elections. They know the people will hold them accountable for the lack of basic infrastructure, such as panchayat roads, while the Chief Minister is busy constructing unnecessary flyovers in cities," said Gogoi.
Highlighting the issue of drinking water, Gogoi criticized the government for its failure to provide potable water to rural areas.

"Even today, people in many parts of Assam remain dependent on pond water. This raises serious questions about the government’s priorities," he added.
The Congress leader also took aim at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's foreign trips, alleging misuse of state funds.
"Instead of addressing crucial issues like timely payment of salaries to teachers, the Chief Minister is spending public money on his international travels," Gogoi asserted.
The meeting in Bokakhat witnessed discussions on strengthening the Congress’s organizational structure and mobilizing support ahead of future elections.
Gaurav Gogoi, who represents the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency urged the people of Assam to raise questions about the government’s accountability and demanded urgent action on key issues affecting their daily lives.
