Newly elected Sewli Mohilary, on May 8, openly expressed her desire for a ministerial position, stating that she would be able to carry out more development work if inducted into the cabinet.
Speaking to the media during a felicitation programme organised in her honour at Pragati Bhawan in Kokrajhar town, Mohilary said she was seeking a ministerial berth as a woman legislator and stressed that Kokrajhar, being an important capital region, required extensive developmental initiatives.
“I am seeking a ministerial position. As a woman MLA, I believe I can contribute more effectively to development work if given ministerial responsibility. Kokrajhar is a capital constituency and there is still a lot of work to be done for its development,” she said.

The felicitation programme was organised by the Kokrajhar Municipal Board following her electoral victory from the Kokrajhar Assembly constituency.
Mohilary received a grand welcome from supporters and residents, who felicitated her with traditional Assamese and Bodo cultural symbols, including aronai and japi. She was ceremonially escorted to the stage amid loud cheers from hundreds of supporters.
During her speech, the MLA remarked that “nothing is achieved without asking for it,” and drew parallels between her electoral victory and her new political aspiration.
“Just as the people of the constituency wanted me to become an MLA and blessed me to achieve it, there is now another task left — seeking a ministerial position,” she added.
