Assam: BTR CEM Pramod Bodo hails classical status to Assamese language

Over 1,100 individuals officially joined the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) during a large-scale joining program held on Saturday at Bonorgaon, Kokrajhar. Organized by the UPPL's Bonorgaon Block Committee, the event witnessed a surge in new members from various groups, signaling the growing support for the party.

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member (CEM) and UPPL party president Promod Boro, alongside other prominent UPPL leaders, warmly welcomed 1,174 new members into the party's fold. The gathering is seen as a boost to the party's momentum as it strengthens its foothold in the region.

Addressing reporters after the ceremony, Promod Boro sharply criticized the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), accusing them of deceiving the public, which has led many to embrace the UPPL. Confident in the party’s rising popularity, Boro predicted that UPPL’s influence in the 40 constituencies of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will soar, with support expected to reach 60-70% in the coming months.

In addition to political matters, Promod Boro extended heartfelt congratulations on the recognition of the Assamese language as a Classical Language of India. He acknowledged the tireless efforts of researchers, scholars, and linguists who have contributed to this achievement, noting that this recognition would inspire similar efforts for other regional languages. Boro also expressed optimism that the Bodo language would one day receive similar recognition, encouraging continued efforts towards its preservation and promotion.

The event underscored both UPPL's growing strength and the pride associated with the recognition of the Assamese language, marking a key moment in Assam's linguistic and political landscape.
