With flood conditions worsening across parts of Assam, Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed visited the severely affected Goroimari area, currently under the Chamaria Legislative Constituency in Kamrup district, on Friday to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts.
On the eve of Eid al-Adha, Ahmed toured flood-hit villages including Champupara, Laruajan, and Bhaoriabhitha along with officials from multiple departments — Revenue, PWD, Health, Disaster Management, PHE, and Veterinary — using two country-made motorboats through the overflowing Kalahi River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra.
Large swathes of farmland remain submerged, affecting hundreds of hectares of paddy, jute, and vegetable cultivation. Villagers have resorted to using handmade wooden boats to move through inundated areas, as roads remain damaged or inaccessible. Ahmed visited the washed-out paved road in Laruajan and directed PWD engineers to initiate repair work at the earliest.

"The floodwaters have not only destroyed crops but also swept away fish from local ponds, adding to the economic distress of the farming communities," Ahmed noted, assuring affected residents of government assistance. He further announced that the state health department will soon deploy mobile medical camps and water ambulances in the region.
Calling for solidarity, Ahmed urged all parties to “stand with the people in need, not play politics during disasters.” His visit was accompanied by Congress workers, newly elected Zila Parishad members, and local panchayat representatives.
