Assam Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia has slammed the state government for terminating the services of employees appointed in 2017 at 11 modern polytechnic institutes across the state.
Speaking in the Assam Assembly, Saikia revealed that the affected employees had followed due process for their appointments and were highly qualified.
However, they were allegedly dismissed after protesting for better service conditions and demanding regular salaries.
“These employees played a crucial role in securing All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) certification for these institutes. Instead of addressing their grievances, the government terminated their services simply because they were protesting at the designated protest grounds,” Saikia stated.

Saikia branded the termination 'unfortunate' and accused the government of ignoring the contributions of these educators. Highlighting the achievements and qualifications of terminated teachers, he criticized the move, citing adverse impacts on local talent and livelihoods. Saikia emphasized that while other states prioritize local employment, Assamese youth are being sidelined.
Congress has submitted an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the issue in the Assembly, calling the move unjust and detrimental to the state's technical education sector.
The state government has not yet responded to the allegations.
